You have heard about fostering, and schemes like the Ukrainian shelter scheme, but you may have never heard of a home grown, locally based scheme called West Wales Shared Lives.
Our carers provide housing and support to local people. Shared Lives is like fostering, you provide a home for someone, however they will be an adult, over 18 years of age, right up until their 80's and older!
You can provide a permanent, long term home or short breaks to give respite to carers in need. The support will be based in your own home, and you can expect a generour tax free fee for doing this (please read on for more informaiton).
So if you have a spare room, or two, and the flexibility to look after someone with learning disabilities or mental health problems (including if you work full time, as some of our carers do!) then this may be the path you are looking for in 2023.
Over 10,000 Shared Lives carers use their own home and family life to share it with someone who needs support around the UK. Working at home, you can earn between £450 – £650 a week with tax relief, training, regular breaks and a local West Wales support network. And you get to see the amazing difference in someone’s life.
Shared Lives care is based on shared interests, lifestyles and sense of humour. It’s a bit like fostering – for adults. It feels like an ordinary life for someone who needs support – and doesn’t feel like a ‘job’ for you!
