The story behind Cwtch Post Box, and what I hope it will become. I started Cwtch Post Box here in Pembrokeshire as a way to help combat loneliness, especially among older people in our communities. It began with a simple idea, to encourage children, families, and anyone who wants to spread a little kindness to hand write letters, poems, drawings, and notes that could brighten someone’s day. In a world where we send so many quick messages online, a handwritten letter feels extra special. There’s something deeply personal about holding a note that someone has taken the time to write. It can mean the world to someone who might otherwise feel forgotten. The name Cwtch (a Welsh word for a warm, comforting hug) felt perfect because that’s exactly what this project is all about, offering a hug in the form of words. Since starting in March 2025, there are now Cwtch Post Boxes across Pembrokeshire at: 📮Pennar Community School in Pembroke Dock 📮Holy Name Catholic Primary School in Fishguard 📮Waldo Lounge in Haverfordwest 📮Saundersfoot Library in Saundersfoot 📮Natwest Bank in Haverfordwest The response from the community has been incredible. People of all ages have taken part, and the messages that come through are full of warmth, care, and creativity. But this is just the beginning. My dream is to see Cwtch Post Box spread right across Wales, reaching even more people who might need that little reminder that they’re not alone. So I’d love to ask for your support: 👉 Please like, follow, and share the Cwtch Post Box Facebook page (Cwtch Post Box - Combating loneliness one letter at a time) to help me grow. 👉 If you can, write a letter or drawing and drop it into one of our boxes — it really does make a difference. 👉 And if you’re part of a school, group, or organisation that would like to get involved, please get in touch! Let’s keep spreading kindness, one Cwtch at a time, and show how powerful a simple letter can be.
