What is it?
Exercise Buddies is a project which aims to increase the amount of physical activity that people with a learning disability and their parents/carers engage in. By supporting them in a range of activities, Exercise Buddies aims to improve both their physical and mental health. There are two Physical Activity Officers who oversee the running of the scheme by arranging and delivering activities across the county both within Pembrokeshire Leisure and externally.
It is a joint funded project between Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion which receives grant funding from the Integrated care fund provided by Welsh Assembly Government.
The project aims to ensure that new activities are built into sustainable projects within peoples own communities. The objective is to initiate and support the development of the participants in order for them to take ownership of their activities. By the end of the project, there will be enough trained people to enable social walking/running groups to be self-sustaining.
