This August Joon Dance bring their unique performance-making summer school back to Torch Theatre and Chapter Arts, during which participants are invited to join us in staging a brand new dance theatre show.
Dive in for a fun filled, creative week in which dancers of all ages and abilities are welcomed, supported and encouraged to learn new movement skills, and choreograph their own part in the performance.

This year we are re-telling Cinderella for the modern age.
‘Cinder’s lost their dance shoes’ brings together the stories of each Cinderella character finding the shoes that fit them best and finding their groove. Cinderella rejects the glass slippers laid out for her and chooses her comfy work boots and life outdoors instead, whilst her step-siblings find a way to break free from their armour of masculinity through an unlikely (and surprisingly glittery) route. Meanwhile the wicked stepmother moves beyond her grief in order to nurture herself and her offspring, and the prince gives up searching for love in others and puts on the glass slippers to embrace his true self.

Through this story we aim to tell a multitude of stories and gather people together to ask, what are your favourite dance shoes? What inspires you? And get moving.
From wellies, to work boots, from heels to ballet shoes… whatever shoes fit, we want to get them dancing. The shoes could be real shoes or could just represent the spark of creativity. Whether you’re dancing on your feet, or in a chair; in a studio, a field, on a beach or around your kitchen you are invited to join the ball.
