Crundale Village Hall Haverfordwest 2.30pm Non members welcome
Our first winter talk will be delivered by Katie Barrett
who is the Heritage and Education officer at Picton
Castle Gardens. Her role is varied and includes
creating educational tours, workshops, and writing
resources on aspects of Picton Castle’s fascinating
history. She has a keen interest in Georgian history
and focused on this while studying for her BA
Honours degree in History at Swansea University.
Kate will tell how, an African child came to Picton
Castle, after being given to the Philipps family as a
gift by a Captain John Parr. Cesar went on to
become a respected coal merchant which, in turn,
led him to become a wealthy property owner and
prominent member of Georgian society.
The talk intends to cover how and why this
happened.
