Wellbeing Champions play a vital role in organisations of all sizes, making wellbeing a priority and providing support to their colleagues
About this event
A wellbeing champion is there for colleagues when they need a listening ear, signposting on where to go for specialist help if needed, providing a point of liaison to nip issues in the bud, and driving a healthier workplace culture.
Our training follows a peer-support model, where the focus is on being available, and being willing to provide information and signposting to support, while not taking-on the role of problem-solver or counsellor – we encourage participants at all stages to know the limits of their role and to be aware of when further support is required for an individual.
At RCS, as part of our support and consultancy programme within small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), we have identified the potential benefits of having an individual staff member trained up and confident to fulfil the role of Wellbeing Champion, alongside their usual role.
Wellbeing Champions have existed within large-scale workforces such as the NHS and Civil Service for a few years – they have organised countless wellbeing activities and events, and have raised awareness about key subjects, such as mental health at work and the impacts of stress – as well as highlighting sources of support and providing a listening ear to colleagues.
We have developed this training course for representatives of smaller businesses and third sector organisations to have the same opportunity to support their colleagues in this way. In 2019 we delivered our first all-day training session to a group of new Champions, who have gone on to make a real difference within their teams and workplaces.
This exciting development opportunity has the potential to grow your skills in empathetic and active listening, signposting, planning and resourcing events and activities, and helping to grow a wellbeing strategy within your organisation. We highly recommend that you discuss signing up for this training programme with your leadership team / line manager, as the role of Wellbeing Champion is most effective when carried out in partnership and full agreement with the management team.
