Learning for Living
Do you know how skilled you are?
Caring for a loved one, family member or friend means you will have developed a whole range of skills.
Learning for Living will help you realise just how talented you are.
Learning for Living is a useful tool that will boost your confidence to take on life. On completion you will have a badge to present to your current or future employer so they will recognise your skills.
Or you can simply enjoy Learning for Living and celebrate what you do every day and may take for granted.
Quotes from carers who have completed Learning for Living
“I think going through this process would definitely make carers feel good about the skills and abilities they have acquired during their caring ‘careers’. One of the biggest challenges is convincing others that while you have been caring for say 10 years, you have been developing and exercising skills during this period. Learning for Living is thorough, useful and fun.”
“Using real life examples made the programme very relatable and applicable to me in my caring role. I liked how I could save my progress, take a break and complete the programme in my own time. I appreciated the use of theory and how I could apply this in practice to my learning. The Envision Your Future module actually made me stop for a moment to think about what I want for my future.”

We have produced a free information pack for Welsh carers who are studying, or thinking about studying, with the Open University. We hope it will be a source of useful information and guidance, as well as signposting student carers to other resources that might be relevant to them.
What about me? A personal development course for carers in Wales has been developed by The Open University and Carers Trust Wales. The course is designed for carers of any age and ability and helps carers to recognise and reflect on their skills and experiences. The course also includes carers from Wales sharing their own experiences of balancing their caring responsibilities with education and employment. As a free online resource, the course can be used for free by carers groups or carers studying on their own.
