Cwtch Post Box

Welcome to Cwtch Post Box! Reconnecting people and reducing social isolation, one letter at a time!

What is Cwtch Post Box?

Cwtch Post Box is a community initiative that is designed to spread joy and support to those experiencing social isolation. By creating a link with someone who can send letters to an elderly person, we want to brighten the days of both sender and receiver, fostering connections within the community and bringing smiles to those who need it most.

How does it work?

We will work with a school who in turn will encourage students to write a letter that will be delivered to a care home. We will then work with the care home residents to support them to write back. Letters will be checked to ensure that there are no safeguarding concerns and then delivered. We hope that there will be an ongoing exchange between the students and care home residents.

What are the benefits?

This project aims to support the notion of age-friendly communities, via a knowledge exchange between the generations. The art of letter writing will be maintained, skills in language will be practised and we hope to promote greater understanding and respect on both sides of the generational divide.

How can I get involved?

At the moment, this is a pilot project involving one school and one care home. It is our intention to run the project and then to see if it has run smoothly or if there are any adjustments that need to be made. Once we have determined how the project can be expanded, we will make contact with other groups to see if they want to take part in Cwtch Post Box.

Being Here - Andy Calloway

"What's on your mind today?" she asked,

"Oh, you know," I said, "the usual mix;

Things that I shouldn't stress about,

Things nobody can fix.

The hopeless hopes, the fearsome fears,

The same old thoughts, both light and dark:

Some that come and then quickly go,

Others that leave their mark."

"Anything I can do?" she asked,

"I know loneliness can be tough."

And thanking her, I shook my head,

"Your being here's enough."
