Y Garreg Las 26 Latest News

In the 15 months leading up to Eisteddfod Y Garreg Las 2026, Pembrokeshire Community Hub will be covering as many Y Garreg Las related events as possible here on this page as well as the Hub's social media platforms, not only to help with the all important fundraising target of £400,000, but also as one way of promoting Welsh language and culture, Welsh history and legend.

In so doing, we hope to encourage awareness that the National Eisteddfod is for all Welsh people whether they speak Cymraeg or not, a living, breathing, priceless piece of their own history and heritage.

Maes Wellbeing Walk | Llantood

In its quest to encourage an awareness and an appreciation of all things Eisteddfod among the non-Welsh speaking Welsh population of the county, Pembrokeshire Community Hub was once again absolutely delighted to be invited to spend Saturday 31 May covering the Eisteddfod Well Being Walk in Llantood.

Starting out from the historic Saint Illtud’s Church and superbly led by our guide Geraint Volke, the walk was designed for people to learn about where the Eisteddfod Y Garreg Las 2026 is actually going to be held, the Maes, as well as the area around it.

A fascinating and educational few hours tramping across open fields and complimented by lungfulls of the freshest air came to a perfect end with tea, home-made bara brith, Welsh cakes and chat in the June sunshine.

Keep your eyes peeled for further such walks over the coming months.

And look out for our photos of the day as well as our interview with Geraint, which will be appearing here shortly.

Proclamation Ceremony | Narberth

Pembrokeshire Community Hub was absolutely thrilled to be able to attend the Eisteddfod Y Garreg Las 2026 Proclamation ceremony in Narberth on Saturday 17 May 2025 and take a few snaps (like the one next to this text) for our followers to enjoy.

A key part of the Eisteddfod since its revival by Iolo Morganwg in the late 18th century, the proclamation is a formal announcement that an Eisteddfod will be held in a specific location, and is traditionally held a year and a day before the event.

On Saturday 17 May, over a thousand local residents and members of Gorsedd Cymru formed a procession through the streets of Narberth to celebrate the visit of the National Eisteddfod to Llantood in Pembrokeshire in 2026, and the procession was followed by a colourful ceremony held in the Gorsedd Circle.

During the ceremony, this year it was John Davies, Chair of the local Executive Committee, who had the honour of presenting the first copy of the List of Competitions to the Archdruid.

The ceremony was also a chance for the Archdruid, Mererid Hopwood, to address the crowd from the Maes Llog, and communicate her strong message, a message of peace.

She said: “One of the brightest pupils of this town’s grammar school, pleaded for peace throughout his life, Waldo Williams, the poet who dared to ask all the big questions: ‘What is living?’ ‘What is forgiving?’

Don't forget, you can follow all the build up to Y Garreg Las 2026 over the coming year here on our dedicated Y Garreg Las 2026 mini website.
