The Story of Evans and Son

July 2022. Haverfordwest. It's the senior Men's County Singles final. The one Brian Hearne will describe almost immediately it's over as the best ever seen.

 

 

When, under a brutal sun, Mathieu Evans fizzes the championship winner past Jeremy Cross it is a special moment at the end of a century of Evans tennis pedigree stretching back to a great grandmother playing on a court in Shropshire in the early evening sun, and spanning decades of local dominance by his father who had won 5 county singles finals way back when. Incredibly, an hour or so later Mathieu would share another once-in-a-lifetime moment with that same father winning the men's doubles title.
