The voice of community and town councils in Wales

About

The voice of community and town councils in Wales

One Voice Wales is the principal organisation for community and town councils in Wales, providing a strong voice representing the councils' interests and a range of high quality services to support their work. One Voice Wales was formed in April 2004 out of the two main predecessor organisations: NALC Cymru and the Wales Association of Community and Town Councils.

The National VOICE - the Welsh Government and many other organisations recognise and consult with One Voice Wales on local government and other policies relevant to community and town councils. We also represent community and town councils on the local government Partnership Council for Wales. We also organise a National Conference for the sector in Wales.

The Regional VOICE - Development Officers for North, Mid and South Wales ensure regional needs and issues are identified and acted upon.

The Local VOICE - Our 16 Area Committees and Larger Local Councils Committee meet regularly and provide valuable networking opportunities where councils can share concerns and exchange experiences, with relevant guest speakers present to raise awareness of current issues and answer questions.

Our members benefit from:
High quality legal advice - target time for response to straightforward queries is 10 days.

Advice on improving service delivery - we can advise on accountability and governance, HR/organisational issues, planning, Standing Orders, together with guidance on increasing community involvement and engagement.

Training - a comprehensive training programme has been developed to enable councils to enhance the quality and effectiveness of their work.

Policy matters - One Voice Wales maintains close links with WG and others, and is therefore able to advise on the full spectrum of devolved and non-devolved policy matters.

Newsletter and website - relevant articles and information on current issues affecting councils and local activities across Wales.

Membership is annual and subscriptions are based on the size of the council.
