The Volunteer Roles

We cannot only live for ourselves. A thousand fibres connect us with our fellow men.

Herman Melville

The place-based approach adopted by Volunteering Matters Pembrokeshire is shaped by local knowledge, energy and understanding, and is designed to support people in their local communities within Pembrokeshire both to overcome the challenges they face and to unlock their potential.

Through this project and the power of volunteering, we are providing a platform for volunteers, young people, and communities to challenge existing structures and work with decision-makers both to overcome barriers and inequalities, and also to deal with some of the county's more pressing issues.

If you are interested in any of the roles here, please contact Mr Damian Golden, the VM Pembrokeshire Engagement Manager:

Virtual Reality Volunteer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Virtual Reality Volunteer to support care homes across Pembrokeshire in holding VR sessions created to improve the wellbeing and mood of their residents.

Only very basic use of the Virtual Reality (VR) headsets is required as full training will be given. A support team will also be on hand to provide both backup and technical help.

Volunteers who have a passion for working with others, for supporting elderly people, and who may have experience in care or nursing, would be very suitable for this role; and an interest in immersive technology would advantageous, but not essential.

We will work with each volunteer to deliver a full induction and VR training session after which a residential care home, near the volunteer’s own home wherever possible, will be identified as their placement.

The volunteer will need to provide their own transport. We will accompany the volunteer for their first care home visit after which we will provide ongoing support. We envisage the volunteer would deliver a two to three-hour weekly support session.

The volunteer will be required to be observant, sensitive, and responsive to the needs of the individuals they are working with, and to uphold the highest health and safety standards. They will be required to work effectively within a team to achieve good patient experiences and outcomes. There will also be a small amount of feedback information to complete and submit following each visit.
