The Pembrokeshire Blind Society works in conjunction with Pembrokeshire County Council’s sensory services team.

This enables us to offer a wide variety of services and support, these include:

  • A gift of £100 per annum at Christmas.
  • Providing specalist aids and equipment.
  • Providing grants where appropriate.
  • Supporting local social groups for visually impaired people. (VIP Groups)
  • Supporting a local talking newspaper.

Social Groups

We call our Social Groups – VIP Groups (Visually Impaired People).

The aim of the VIP groups is to provide social, recreational and educational opportunities for Registered Blind people in Pembrokeshire.

There are ten groups across the county organised and facilitated by three dedicated project workers. The project workers, Rebecca, Kirsty and Noelle collect group members from their homes in the Blind Society’s easy access minibus where possible. The groups usually meet once a month for two hours.

During the winter months groups meet at various venues, activities may include:

  • Speakers
  • Performers
  • Equipment demonstrations
  • Gentle exercise
  • Quizzes and games

During the summer months we enjoy:

  • Guided walks with the National Parks
  • Visiting local places of interest
  • Visits to local garden centres and tea rooms
  • Galleries and craft centres

There are two groups for the more active members. Activities include such things as:

  • Horse riding
  • Rock climbing
  • Aerobics
  • 4×4 driving
  • Walking
