Overview
As a Community Grower with Field of Beans, you will join a cooperatively run, regenerative horticulture project spanning one acre in Blaenffos, Pembrokeshire. The project focuses on producing fresh, organic food for participants and their families, with any surplus donated to community projects and local food banks.
Purpose of the Role
To participate in the growing, maintaining, and harvesting of crops within a supportive cooperative setting, contributing to a sustainable local food system.
Key Responsibilities
- Take part in weekly growing sessions (typically one day a week after an introductory period, with flexibility depending on personal commitments).
- Support seasonal gardening tasks such as sowing, planting, weeding, maintenance, and harvesting.
- Join monthly cooperative meetings and volunteer to become a crop guardian or take responsibility for a particular area of the garden.
- Work collaboratively with other growers and contribute to shared decision-making.
- Access support through the volunteer buddy system and request additional training where needed.
- Help maintain the site to a high standard, ensuring it remains productive, safe, and welcoming for participants.
- Assist with events and workshops held on-site (note: Field of Beans is not open to the public except for organised activities).

- Interest in sustainable growing, organic food production, or regenerative horticulture.
- Willingness to learn new skills and work as part of a cooperative team.
- Reliability and willingness to commit regularly (with flexibility as needed).
- Respectful, collaborative, and comfortable with shared responsibility.
- No prior gardening experience required—training and support are provided.
Time Commitment
Typically one day per week after the introductory period, with optional opportunities to do more or less depending on availability. Monthly meetings are also part of the cooperative structure.
