Energy Advice for Those With Learning Disabilities and Their Carers

Reading Mencap is working in partnership with SGN to provide people with learning disabilities and their carers with energy advice. Our staff have been specially trained to give you advice.

We can help you with information about:

  • Carbon Monoxide Alarms
  • Locking Cooking Valves

We can provide one-to-one support and energy safety workshops for people with a learning disability and their carers.

Martin Lewis Important Advice On Pensions Credits

Pension credit is a benefit which is worth £1,900 on average (MSE says £3,300 average) and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) minister Guy Opperman MP has indicated that 770,000 eligible pensioners have failed to make claims. Martin explains that Pension Credits are also a gateway to other benefits such as free TV Licences and a reduction in council tax. The other key fact is that it's not automatic and people must claim.

We all know that there are lots of things in life to worry about, but having access to the period products you need shouldn't be one of them. Everyone goes through times when they need a helping hand. If you or someone in your home is finding it hard to source the period products you need, talk to a Community Connector who will be able to link you to available resources and support in your area.
