Overview
As a Garden Construction and Maintenance Volunteer with Ffynnon, you will provide practical, hands-on support across our community gardens. This role focuses on maintaining and improving garden infrastructure, ensuring spaces are safe, functional, and welcoming for volunteers and visitors. You may support one specific garden or work across multiple Ffynnon sites.
Purpose of the Role
To help maintain, repair, and develop garden infrastructure, supporting the smooth running of volunteer days, events, and ongoing garden activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain garden infrastructure such as raised bed borders, fences, pathways, seating, and other built features.
- Support the design and construction of new garden infrastructure as needed.
- Help with shed upkeep and general maintenance of garden buildings.
- Assist with tool care, including checking tools are in good condition and reporting when items are missing, damaged, or need repair or replacement.
- Provide practical support at events when required, such as erecting gazebos and moving tables, chairs, and equipment.
- Attend regular volunteer days and be available for practical tasks as agreed.
- Be contactable by staff or gardening volunteers if additional practical support is needed.
Personal Qualities & Skills
- Practical, hands-on, and comfortable with basic construction and maintenance tasks
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently or as part of a small team
- Willing to learn new skills and follow guidance from staff
- Physically able to carry out manual tasks
- An interest in community gardens and shared spaces
Time Commitment
Flexible and task-based. Volunteers can support regular volunteer days, ongoing maintenance tasks, or occasional events, depending on availability.
